Not ideal for a core that saw themselves as a superteam going into the year.

The Phoenix Suns‘ playoff hopes ended as quickly as they started as the Minnesota Timberwolves dismantled them to the tune of a first-round sweep following a 122-116 win in Game 4 on Sunday.

Though they kept it close in Game 4, even taking the lead into half-time, it was all for naught as the team that dominated the entire series kept their pace to leave Kevin Durant and Co. dried out in the desert.

Minnesota became the first team to punch their ticket to the second round. This is also the first time the Timberwolves have won a playoff series since the 2003-04 season when they made it to the Western Conference Finals.

Emerging superstar Anthony Edwards dominated the series, averaging 28.0 points, 7.7 rebounds and 6.3 assists coming into Sunday’s game.

The Timberwolves now await the winner of the Denver Nuggets vs. Los Angeles Lakers series. The reigning champion Nuggets are up 3-1 in the series heading into Game 5 on Monday night.

More to come.
