The first thing that the Los Angeles Lakers need to take care of in the offseason is deciphering the direction they want to go in. At times, LeBron James was clearly defiant with some of Darvin Ham’s calls. Meanwhile, Anthony Davis admitted that they felt lost in that NBA Playoffs first-round exit against the Denver Nuggets. So, will they stay? Or, are people like JJ Redick and Ty Lue about to be the next head honchos of the Purple and Gold?

There is significant reason to believe that the Duke legend will take over the Lakers, per Dave McMenamin on The Dan Patrick Show. This rumor does not go without basis. JJ Redick was already heavily considered to take over the Charlotte Hornets. He was classified as a serious candidate to take over the post after Steve Clifford announced his departure. His IQ when it comes to basketball has been compounded over time. So, there is not much worry about whether or not he knows the game and its schemes.

JJ Redick was a great star out of Duke and learned from Coach Mike Krzyzewski. He is still the all-time leading scorer with 2,769 points. Moreover, his stardom may not have been as big in the NBA as it was in Durham but he still learned a lot. He logged his best career season with the Philadelphia 76ers back in the 2018-19 season where he notched 18.1 points alongside 2.7 assists and 2.4 rebounds. JJ Redick learned from the best coaches that the league could offer. He already has a bond with Lakers legend LeBron James. So, it might be worth a shot.

Speaking of connections to LeBron James, Ty Lue is another coach who will be considered once Darvin Ham gets booted. He helped The King fulfill his promise to the Cleveland Cavaliers faithful by making the right rotational calls to reverse sweep the 73-win Golden State Warriors. One thing that Ty Lue does well is keep the egos of his stars in check. He has managed to keep Kawhi Leonard, Paul George, James Harden, and Russell Westbrook from butting heads with one another. This a very important skill for a person who wants to coach a big franchise that attracts stars like the Lakers.

Aside from the big run that the Lakers made en route to the Western Conference Finals, it has not been the best. The same story always unfolds for the Anthony Davis and LeBron James-led squad. They start off the season slow while also having some glimpses of dominance in the middle of the campaign. Then, they struggle to get wins after the All-Star break. This squad will have to fight such that they even notch a spot in the NBA Playoffs. All of that just so they could get molly-whopped when they face the Nuggets.

The only thing that was different this year was that the players, and not just the fans, grew increasingly frustrated with the way certain calls were made by the Darvin Ham-led coaching staff.

If he does get the boot, who do you think should take over?
