The Brooklyn Nets have become an NBA afterthought now that Kevin Durant is in Phoenix and the team has failed to make the NBA Playoffs. The Nets need positive buzz this offseason to make their franchise appear attractive to free agents, and the latest bit of news is good in that regard, potentially.

According to a prominent sportsbook, Joel Embiid, the former NBA MVP now with the Philadelphia 76ers, is favored to possibly play for the Nets next season if he does not play for the 76ers.

The information was shared during the exit of a familiar face as a Nets coaching staff member and former NCAA title winning coach with the Connecticut Huskies. The Nets’ future and the fallout from the Durant trade were discussed recently as well.

Could Brooklyn really end up with Embiid as a member of its lineup next season? That depends on who you ask, but it’s a comforting thought for long-suffering Nets fans.

Latest Odds on Embiid to Nets Revealed

The latest Vegas odds on Embiid heading to Brooklyn to play with Cam Thomas, new coach Jordi Fernandez and the Nets were shared by the prominent sportsbook called BetOnline.com. According to the sportsbook, Embiid is listed as +300 odds to play for the Nets if not for the Sixers, with the Chicago Bulls and Miami Heat next at +600 and +800 odds, respectively. The team with the lowest odds is the Utah Jazz at +7500 odds currently.

Embiid will not be an unrestricted free agent until 2027-2028 but there is speculation on his future that is surprising to many people after the unveiling of these odds. Embiid could team with Cam Thomas, Jordi Fernandez and the rest of the Nets as part of what would suddenly become a long, athletic and dangerous team in the East.

Ben Simmons Among Nets’ Biggest Question Marks This Offseason

Ben Simmons is one of the many question marks surrounding the Nets’ offseason situation. Simmons is in the last year of a five-year deal and it is questionable as to whether or not he will return after playing in just 57 games over the last two and a half seasons with Brooklyn.

Fernandez will likely want to put his own stamp on the team after coming in as head coach so Simmons could well be on his way out of town. As the Durant situation showed, the Nets need a marquee player to help them take the next step. Cam Thomas is a solid option as a number one or two scorer depending on his future development, but Embiid could take the Nets to an entirely new level. Mikal Bridges and Dennis Schroder are among the most talented players on the Nets roster who could be a part of a possible Embiid deal, which could shake the very foundations of the NBA for several years into the future.
